Hermanus (Manie) Blom is a big man with a big smile. And he would have been beaming after winning the gold medal in the men’s F12 shot put at the 2025 Toyota SASAPD National Championships in Gqeberha on Sunday. The visually-impaired Gauteng para-athlete had a best heave of 13.37m to take gold. He had been a finalist at the Paris Games where he finished seventh with a distance of 13.16m. He was one of the “characters” in the Team SA squad at the Paralympics and has been in good form this season and will be delighted with his performance in…

A song of faith, resilience, and self-assurance, ‘Olaitan Olaoluwa sees’ Oxlade reflecting on his journey, using personal experiences and spiritual affirmations to remind himself, and his listeners, that his path is guided by divine favour. He acknowledges the sacrifices he has made and the challenges he continues to face, reinforcing the belief that no amount of negativity can derail him. The track blends introspection with triumph, making it both a motivational anthem and a testimony of…

Defending series champion Glenrose Xaba had to dig deep on Sunday morning, but she managed to hold off a challenge from Ethiopia’s Selam Gebre to win the opening leg of the 2025 Spar Grand Prix held in Greenpoint, Cape Town in the Western Cape, on Sunday, 30 March, 2025. While it had rained in the Mother City overnight, the skies cleared just before the start of the 10km contest, offering near perfect conditions for the elite field aside from a bit of wind. Pushing the pace hard at the start, Xaba (Boxer Athletics Club) pulled two athletes with her in…
Leftover stew sitting in the fridge? Don’t let it go to waste! Meg’s Cuisine turns it into a rich and flavourful Spaghetti Jollof, full of colour and fresh ingredients. She starts by cooking the spaghetti until it’s soft, then heats some vegetable oil in a pan. In goes the leftover stew, sizzling as it fries for a few minutes to wake up all the flavours. The spaghetti follows, mixing in beautifully as fresh basil leaves add an aromatic touch. After a short simmer, she throws in diced sausages and carrots, keeping them just crisp enough for that perfect bite. Then…
Philip Snyman accepts all the blame for a weekend of few highlights for the Blitzboks at the Hong Kong Sevens, but rather many disappointing moments. The head coach still believes his squad can beat any other team on the circuit, so South Africa’s ninth-place finish at the fifth leg of the 204-25 World Rugby SVNS Series was a bitter pill to swallow. “I have to take this one on the chin, as that was not our standard and ultimately, it is my job to make sure the guys are up for it and that consistency becomes a norm for the…
South Africa’s men’s sevens team beat Uruguay and Kenya on Sunday to finish ninth at the Hong Kong Sevens. South Africa had failed to make the quarter-finals of the World Rugby Sevens Series tournament after losing their last pool match on Saturday 17-7 to New Zealand. That was South Africa’s second loss in as many games after falling 26-7 to Australia in Pool B. While their campaign started with a scintillating 40-7 demolition of relegation-threatened Uruguay, they hadn’t done enough to qualify for the Cup quarters. The South Africans scored five tries in their 33-7 ninth-place semi-final win against Uruguay.…
