Celebrate world champion Springbok Danie Rossouw’s birthday with a look back on his illustrious career.

The former Bok utility forward, who turns 46 today, was a key member of the team that won the 2007 Rugby World Cup and British & Irish Lions series in 2009.

Rossouw embodied the best qualities of an SA forward – fearless, formidable and fiercely loyal. Debuting for the Vodacom Bulls in 1999, the Bok powerhouse became a mainstay at Loftus for over a decade, earning 211 caps and winning three Super Rugby and three Currie Cup titles.

His 63-Test journey began at the 2003 World Cup, where he scored three tries, and ended at the conclusion of the 2011 edition. Rossouw starred at No 8, flank and lock and his try in the 2007 World Cup semi-final – not to mention a game-saving tackle on Mark Cueto in the final – cemented his legacy.

His illustrious career included winning the Tri Nations in 2009, along with two Champions Cups with Toulon and a pair of Japanese championship medals with Suntory Sungoliath.
