South African DJ and Amapiano producer Bukzin Keyz releases an instrumental solo titled “Satan 8.0 (African Music).” A five-minute tune that fits well into the underground piano realm he has been developing through his collection.
Bukzin Keyz has been making waves in the South African Amapiano scene, including on “JAIVA NUNU” with Mid9t and also featuring in collaborative spaces alongside Officixl RSA and Benzoo on “Izolo.” There’s no guest list in this solo record, and the production can speak for itself totally. The five-minute length gives the track enough room to develop properly, rather than rushing through its concepts.
The song relies on rolling log drumming and a hypnotic bass end that dominates the record from the opening seconds. The music is very much an Amapiano record with melodic piano loops drifting through the arrangement, without relying on any obvious vocal hooks to bear the weight.
The instrumentation supports that Bukzin Keyz is deliberately situating the record within an African musical context. The piano melodies have a warmth not an anger, and the percussion stays firmly in the log drum tradition that defines the genre’s South African roots.
