Bulls CEO Edgar Rathbone says injured Vodacom Bulls loose forwards Cameron Hanekom and Elrigh Louw are recovering “faster than expected”.

However, according to Rapport, the Bulls are still taking the conservative route when it comes to their return to the playing field, which means the pair will not be available for the Springboks’ end-of-year tour.

Louw, 25, sustained a serious knee injury against the Lions in January, and the Bulls are targeting February 2026 for his comeback. Hanekom, 23, picked up a knee injury in June and is only expected back at the end of November or the start of December.

“Cameron and Elrigh’s recovery process is going very well. Both are recovering faster than expected,” Rathbone told Rapport.

“Elrigh will be able to start running again within the next week or two. Even if he feels he is ready to play, we will not make the mistake of rushing him back and risking re-injury. He’s had an injury that keeps you out for 12 months.

“Cameron is also recovering quicker from a serious knee injury than we thought. But again, we won’t take any chances on him coming back too soon and then breaking down.”

Louw last featured for the Springboks against Wales in Cardiff in November 2024, while Hanekom made his Test debut as a replacement in the same match – his only cap to date.
