Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has confirmed that he is still waiting for a detailed report from National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola regarding serious corruption allegations. The claims suggest that 121 dockets were removed from the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) political killings task team.
On Thursday, Masemola announced that the dockets would be returned to the unit from the office of Crime Detection Deputy Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.

Cachalia expressed concern that key steps are being taken before the commission of inquiry into political interference in the criminal justice system has had the chance to investigate. The commission is expected to examine allegations surrounding the functioning of the political killings task team.
Cachalia Calls for Urgent Report from Masemola
Minister’s spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi highlighted the importance of transparency in this matter, saying:
“I recognise that the allegations made in relation to the political killings task team are of immense public interest. The political killings task team is at the centre of the allegations made by the provincial commissioner and will be dealt with by the commission.

“It is a concern, therefore, that steps are being taken in relation to this matter before the commission has had a chance to investigate the issues surrounding the task team. I have requested the National Commissioner to submit his report without further delay.”
