The Council for Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) has shifted dates for its CAF Women’s Champions League(CAFWCL) qualifying tournament.

In a statement issued on Monday, COSAFA announced that the Southern African qualifiers for the continental league will take place in Gaborone, Botswana from August 20-29.

“The draw for the competition will take place on Wednesday, July 22, when the competing sides will learn their fate,” reads the statement.

“The final line-up will be confirmed after the CAF deadline of Wednesday, July 15, for Member Associations to submit clubs’ licensing documentation in accordance with the Club Licensing Regulations.”

COSAFA changes schedule

This is a change in the schedule which COSAFA had announced on 23 June that the regional qualifying tournament will take place from 6 to 15 August.

The champions for the COSAFA block will represent the region at the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament to take place later this year.

The qualifiers attract national league domestic champions drawn from the 14-member block to produce a representative for the continental league final tournament.

Hosting the tournament in Botswana affords defending champions Gaborone United Ladies a perfect platform to retain the title on home soil.
