If you’ve only got one day in Cape Town, you’ll want to balance seeing the highlights with enjoying the city at a relaxed pace.

Luckily, many of Cape Town’s most iconic spots are within easy reach of each other. Here’s a one-day itinerary that flows naturally, starting on the mountain and ending by the ocean.
Sunrise: Lion’s Head or Signal Hill

Begin with a sunrise hike up Lion’s Head, a local favorite for its short but rewarding trail (about 60–90 minutes). The panoramic views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean are unforgettable. If hiking isn’t your thing, head up Signal Hill by car instead for equally breathtaking views without the climb.
Morning: Coffee & Breakfast in the City Bowl

After sunrise, head down into the city bowl for breakfast. Stop at Truth Coffee Roasting for artisan brews or Jason Bakery for flaky pastries and hearty breakfast plates. Both are within 15 minutes of Lion’s Head and keep you close to your next stop.
Mid-Morning: Table Mountain Cable Car

From the city bowl, it’s a quick drive or rideshare to the Table Mountain cableway. Taking the rotating cable car up is much quicker than hiking and gives you plenty of time to enjoy the views at the top. Spend an hour or two exploring the plateau and soaking in vistas of the city, Robben Island, and the Peninsula.
Lunch: The V&A Waterfront

Next, head down to the V&A Waterfront, about a 10-minute drive from Table Mountain. This lively harbor district is perfect for lunch. You can grab seafood with a view at Harbour House, or try The Watershed market for casual eats and local craft shopping. If you’ve got extra time, pop into the Zeitz MOCAA for a dose of contemporary African art.
Afternoon: Clifton & Camps Bay

Instead of trekking all the way to Cape Point, keep things local and make your way along the Atlantic Seaboard (about 15 minutes from the Waterfront). Spend the afternoon relaxing at Clifton’s beaches or strolling the palm-lined promenade in Camps Bay. If you’d like a bit more activity, the Sea Point Promenade is great for a walk or bike ride with ocean views.
Sunset: Camps Bay Dinner & Cocktails

Round off your day with Cape Town’s signature sunset. Camps Bay is ideal for this. Grab a seaside table at Paranga, The Bungalow, or Mantra Café, where you can sip a cocktail as the sun dips into the Atlantic. The atmosphere is lively, the food is excellent, and you won’t need to travel far to end your night.
Optional Evening: Long Street or Sea Point Promenade

If you’re not ready to call it a day, head back into the city (10–15 minutes) for nightlife on Long Street, famous for its mix of bars and live music. Alternatively, keep things mellow with a moonlit walk on the Sea Point Promenade, listening to the waves.
