The Exeter Chiefs opened their EPCR Challenge Cup campaign with a commanding win against the Cheetahs at Sandy Park on Sunday.
The hosts crossed for six tries in a match they controlled from the outset. Centre Henry Slade delivered a standout display, contributing 17 points via a try and six conversions.
Exeter struck early. With just four minutes gone, centre Len Ikitau cut through to open the scoring and Slade converted. Their fast start continued when No 8 Greg Fisilau powered over, Slade again adding the extras.
The visitors briefly turned momentum their way. Fullback Michael Annies finished a flowing counter-attack and flyhalf Jaco van der Walt’s conversion trimmed the deficit to seven.
But that resistance was short-lived as Exeter tightened their grip on the contest. Flyhalf Harvey Skinner dived over after sustained pressure, before prop Scott Sio muscled through moments later.
Slade then produced the moment of the half, collecting a pinpoint cross-kick to score and convert, sending Exeter into the break firmly in control at 35-7.

The Cheetahs emerged with more intent in the second half. A spell of territory and possession ended with winger Munier Hartzenberg finishing out wide to offer some hope.
Exeter struck back decisively when winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso finished in the corner and Slade converted.
Despite refusing to fold, the Cheetahs saw repeated attacking chances evaporate through handling errors and ill-discipline.
Next up, the Cheetahs face Stade Français in Amsterdam, while Exeter travel to Racing 92.
