Before the full reveal, Citroën is letting the Basalt’s design speak for itself – sculpted lights, alloy wheels and interior touches teased like fashion accessories

The B-SUV has quietly become South Africa’s default family car – practical, rational, and often forgettable. Citroën’s new Basalt SUVCoupé, arriving at the end of March 2026, is a reminder that the segment doesn’t have to blend into the background.

Instead of leading with specs and options, Citroën is taking a different approach: teasing the car in fragments. A sculpted rear light. A signature alloy wheel. Interior textures captured like a couture close-up. Each detail is presented as an object in its own right, tied together by the line: “You’ll want a piece of it.” The goal isn’t shock value; it’s to make drivers stop and notice.

“We wanted the public’s first impression of the allnew Basalt to be emotional,” says Mmathapelo Khumalo, Head of Citroën at Stellantis South Africa. “By highlighting individual elements first, people can connect with the car’s character before the full silhouette appears. When they finally do see it, the coupé-inspired roofline and raised stance will already feel familiar – and still surprising.”

The Basalt keeps the essentials that make B-SUVs popular: raised ride height, usable cabin space, and everyday comfort. But these fundamentals are wrapped in a shape and stance that feel more deliberate. It’s still a family car; it just doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s.

Before the full reveal, South Africans will encounter a curated “collection” of these details across out-of-home displays, social media, and online channels. The pieces arrive first, the complete car later – a subtle way to train the eye to notice and appreciate what sets Basalt apart.

Full specifications and pricing are still under wraps, but the message is clear: the B- SUV can be expressive. In a segment defined by sameness, it’s the small, deliberate details that make the Basalt stand out.
