Orlando Pirates sent the South African football fraternity into a frenzy on Monday with the appointment of Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Fresh from resigning at Marumo Gallants, Ouaddou was announced as the new Pirates coach, a move very few saw coming.

Pirates shocked many with Ouaddou appointment

This was not in doubt of Ouaddou’s acumen as a coach, as they were prior links to him and Pirates. In fact, he beat both the Buccaneers and their arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the league last season. He even dragged Gallants to a 10th place finish after finding them in the relegation zone upon his arrival. But the shock in his appointment came in the sense that it was widely expected that Rulani Mokwena would take over.

Just 24 hours prior, wide spread reports claimed that Pirates and Mokwena were advancing in their negotiations. Then the Buccaneers went on to drop the Ouaddou bomb! Now after it successfully landed, the contract details of the Moroccan have been revealed as per Soccer-Laduma sources.

    Contract details subsequently revealed

“That one I can confirm to you (Ouaddou’s contract length). Yes, it’s apparently believed to be a straight three-year contract. It seems as that is the standard for the club (Pirates) now. It was the same with Jose Riveiro as well as Micho (Milutin Sredojevic) and Ruud Krol. So, it’s believed that it will run from the 1st of July 2025 to 30th June 2028. That’s how things are concerning the coach’s contract,” said the source to the same publication.

Ouaddou joins Pirates after a public resignation saga with former club Gallants. He went as far as sending a public letter stating his reasons. He confirmed there that the owner of his previous club confessed he could no longer afford the salary on his renewal option.
