The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni has raised alarm over what it believes to be political interference in the delay of a long-awaited disciplinary report involving Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Acting Chief, Julius Mkhwanazi.
The report, which was expected to be made public last Thursday, has yet to be released. Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has maintained that the delay is due to procedural requirements.

“More time is needed to ensure that all necessary procedures are followed before the release of the report,” said Mayor Xhakaza.
DA Vows To Keep Pressure On Authorities
The disciplinary investigation stems from allegations linking Mkhwanazi to businessman and alleged criminal cartel member, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Jaco Terblanche, the Democratic Alliance’s Spokesperson for Community Safety in Ekurhuleni, insists the party will not let the matter slide.

“In my honest opinion, there is still political interference in his disciplinary (process) and somebody is trying to protect him and from the DA side.
“We are not going to leave it and we will continue to put pressure on authorities until he has his day in court and until all the accusations are tested in the court of law and let the processes go where it should go,” said Terblanche.
Commission Hears Testimony On Vetting Concerns
Meanwhile, former City of Ekurhuleni Manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi, has been accused of hesitating to vet an Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) background check on Mkhwanazi.

This revelation came during testimony by EMPD Chief Jabulani Mapiyeye before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Thursday.
The Democratic Alliance says it will continue pushing for transparency and accountability as it suspects key officials are attempting to shield Mkhwanazi from due process.
