Some coalition parties in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) are standing firm in support of Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli amid calls for his removal.

The MK Party recently submitted a motion of no confidence in the provincial legislature, citing alleged misuse of state funds under Ntuli’s leadership. The premier has denied these claims.

Bonginkosi Mngadi, a member of the KZN Legislature for the MK Party, outlined the rationale behind the motion.

“For poor governance, financial mismanagement, misleading this house on his New York trip, and failure to address unemployment and poverty,” Mngadi said.

Ntuli responded by stating that a comprehensive report had been provided regarding his trip to New York.

Francois Rodgers of the Democratic Alliance (DA), who also serves as MEC for Finance in the executive council, confirmed his party’s opposition to the motion.

“Absolutely, we’re part of the Government of Provincial Unity; we are not perfect, but we are better than the MK Party,” Rodgers said.

Similarly, Siboniso Duma of the African National Congress (ANC) expressed support for maintaining the current leadership.

“Ordinarily, we want to govern on our own, but at this point in time, advanced judgement of the ANC is clinical on the approach. As long as people’s lives have not been changed, we are still going to subject ourselves to ensuring that the needs of our people are prioritised,” Duma said.

Opposition Parties Push for Premier’s Removal

The MK Party’s move to remove Ntuli has also been echoed by the National Freedom Party (NFP) at a national level, which has called for his dismissal.

Meanwhile, Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has accused the MK Party of playing politics.
