The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced it will table a motion to remove Stellenbosch Municipality’s Acting Corporate Services Director, Alexander Kannemeyer, after a controversial video surfaced showing him making racially charged comments about white employees.
In the clip, Kannemeyer can be heard suggesting that life should be made difficult for white workers to force their resignations. He also argues that appointments of skilled candidates often favour white men, a practice he insists must stop.

Stellenbosch Mayor Jeremy Fasser has called a special council meeting for Friday to address the matter, saying the allegations require immediate attention. The video has already sparked widespread debate within the community, with calls for swift accountability.

DA Demands Suspension Amid Outrage
DA national spokesperson Willie Aucamp confirmed that the party will take firm action:
“The Democratic Alliance will also put a request to the municipal manager to suspend Kannemeyer from all positions that he holds within the municipality.
“The right to suspend lies with the municipal manager not with council, because of the fact that Kannemeyer is not a senior director or employee in the municipality.”
The DA has made it clear that it expects the municipality to act decisively to restore public trust.
