Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Dianne Kohler Barnard is facing renewed calls to recuse herself from Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee probing alleged criminal infiltration, corruption, and political interference in South Africa’s criminal justice system.

Several committee members voiced concerns after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi implicated Kohler Barnard during his testimony at the Madlanga Commission, claiming she had accessed crime intelligence information she was not authorised to view.

Committee members said her continued participation could compromise the integrity and impartiality of the inquiry.

    DA Promises Swift Response

The DA has confirmed it is aware of the growing calls for Kohler Barnard’s removal from the committee. In a statement, the party said it is considering the matter and will respond formally by the end of the day.

The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of the Ad Hoc Committee’s work, as it investigates serious claims of corruption and political interference within the country’s law enforcement structures.

Meanwhile, Members of Parliament are scheduled to interrogate Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi today following his testimony at the Madlanga Commission. His allegations against Kohler Barnard are expected to feature prominently in the session.

The African National Congress (ANC) has been among the most vocal in calling for her to recuse herself, arguing that her position on the committee poses a potential conflict of interest given the claims made against her.
