Day visitation to the Kruger National Park (KNP) will resume from Monday, 19 January 2026, following a significant improvement in weather conditions across Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

South African National Parks (SANParks) confirmed that guests will once again be allowed to enter the park for day visits, after recent heavy rainfall led to temporary access restrictions in several areas.

    Caution advised on park roads

While conditions have improved, SANParks has urged visitors to remain cautious, particularly when driving. Guests are strongly advised to avoid gravel roads, as some sections may still be affected by water damage following the recent rainfall.

    Shops low on stock

Visitors should also be aware that shops inside the park are currently running low on stock due to earlier access limitations. SANParks recommends that day visitors bring their own essential supplies to ensure a comfortable and uninterrupted visit.

    Northern Kruger remains closed

The northern region of the Kruger National Park remains inaccessible at this stage, with several roads and bridges washed away. These areas will stay closed until it is deemed safe to reopen them.

Gates open — with one under close watch

Entry into the southern part of the park will be permitted via the Paul Kruger, Numbi, Malelane and Phabeni gates.
However, Phabeni Gate is being closely monitored due to fluctuating water levels in a nearby stream and may be closed at short notice if conditions change.

Crocodile Bridge Gate remains closed until further notice.

SANParks has reiterated that the safety of both guests and staff remains its highest priority. Visitors are urged to adhere strictly to all instructions and signage within the park. Transgressors may face fines or prosecution.

Further updates will be shared as conditions continue to evolve.
