Days after his inauguration, President Trump had ordered the removal of climate-related information from federal web sites and issued orders suppressing funding for continued scientific research into the causes, impacts, and human response to climate change. Below is the White House climate change page, https://www.whitehouse.gov/climatechange. This is likely the first page many Americans will visit to learn about climate change, as they want to hear from our leaders. We are not children; we are citizens who need information to make informed votes.

We appreciate that a change in administration can result in new priorities, but the rise of extreme weather, record global temperatures, and growing importance of a national strategy to reduce emissions deserves continued comment from our leaders. Earth911 urges President Trump to restore data and information paid for by the American public, so that the people can be informed and decide their priorities. Sure, go ahead and change the data, but be prepared to back up the claims with transparently published, juried research. Everyone deserves access to the debate, and everyone in the debate needs to be held accountable.

Out of site will not lead to the people forgetting the record-setting global temperatures, cataclysmic wildfires, and flooding Americans are living through. We would point to the National Centers for Environmental Information’s Billion-Dollar Weather and Climate Disasters page as evidence, but it has been taken down: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/billions/
