The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has accused Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia of political interference in ongoing investigations into political killings in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to the party, Cachalia is undermining the work of the Political Killings Task Team after controversy surrounding the return of 121 dockets linked to the probe.

Cachalia criticised the National Police Commissioner for sending back the dockets, saying the decision was premature.

He argued that the process should have awaited the outcome of the Madlanga Inquiry, which is investigating allegations of corruption involving KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

EFF Labels Cachalia an ‘Obstacle to Justice’

The EFF has gone further, questioning Cachalia’s appointment and accusing him of standing in the way of accountability.

“The EFF says Cachalia was irregularly appointed and is now revealing himself as an obstacle to justice,” the party said in a statement.
