Folagade Banks claims Nollywood record with 600-cast wedding scene

Popular skit maker and filmmaker Folagade Banks has taken a bold step into big-screen filmmaking, staging a wedding scene involving more than 600 cast members for his forthcoming movie, “A Mama Deola Wedding Story”, in what he described as the biggest wedding sequence ever filmed in a Nollywood production

The entertainer, whose real name is Abiri Tobi Folagade and who is widely known for his comic character Mama Deola, disclosed the feat in a post shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday

According to him, the elaborate wedding sequence, which centres on the marriage of the movie’s lead characters, Demilola and Femi, took about 20 hours of uninterrupted filming and involved hundreds of actors and extras

Expressing excitement over the achievement, Folagade Banks said the scale of the production exceeded anything he had previously undertaken, particularly as a first-time movie producer

“I am so proud of myself! This is the biggest wedding scene you have ever seen in a movie. We created a whole wedding. We had over 600 cast on set yesterday and shot the scene for 20 hours straight. For a first-time movie producer, I can’t believe I handled all of this. Thank you Lord,” he wrote

Describing A Mama Deola Wedding Story as a landmark project, the filmmaker said audiences should expect a cinematic experience unlike anything previously seen in Nollywood

“A Mama Deola Wedding Story is a monumental movie. You won’t believe how amazing this movie is. Something like you have never seen before,” he added

The ambitious project is directed by veteran actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo, whose recent productions have earned both commercial success and critical acclaim, further raising expectations for the movie

The wedding sequence, which recreates a lavish Nigerian wedding between Demilola and Femi, is expected to be one of the film’s defining moments, reflecting the increasing scale and ambition of contemporary Nollywood productions

Folagade Banks also acknowledged the contributions of Whitestone Place for hosting the large-scale production and Decors and Colors for designing the elaborate wedding set, saying their support helped bring his vision to life

The forthcoming movie features an ensemble cast including Shaffy Bello, Toyin Abraham, Bukky Wright, Akin Lewis, Erica Nlewedim, Omowunmi Dada, Rotimi Salami and Idowu Phillips, among others

Although the film’s release date has yet to be announced, the scale of the production and its star-studded cast have already generated excitement among movie lovers, with industry observers describing it as another sign of Nollywood’s growing investment in bigger productions capable of competing on the global stage
