A Harris County, Texas, assistant district attorney accused of choking a family member Sunday during a children’s birthday party was arrested and is no longer employed by the district attorney’s office.
Gabriel Kabak, 32, was charged with assault involving family violence (strangulation), which is a felony, according to the Panorama Village Police Department in Panorama Village, Texas.
During a birthday party, he allegedly pushed partygoers, including a female family member who voiced concern about Kabak driving home after drinking. After an argument ensued, she said she was forced against the side of a house by Kabak, “causing pain and temporarily inhibiting her ability to breathe,” according to coverage on MSN.com.
As an assistant district attorney, Kabak had tried adult sex crime and domestic violence cases at the Harris County district attorney’s office in Texas.
On Monday, a spokesperson said Kabak is no longer a prosecutor at the office. He was booked in the Montgomery County Jail, and a magistrate set bond for $35,000.
