Former special counsel Jack Smith and three other former prosecutors who investigated President Donald Trump and the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol are starting their own law firm, which will launch in January, Law.com reports.
The other lawyers in the firm will be Timothy Heaphy—who was the chief investigative counsel for the House Select Committee on the Jan. 6 attack—Thomas Windom—a veteran federal prosecutor who worked with Smith on the Trump election interference case—and David Harbach—who also worked on the election interference case, Law.com reports.
The new firm will concentrate on trial and investigations work, Law.com reports.
Smith was appointed in 2022 to oversee the Department of Justice’s investigations into classified documents found at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida and his role in attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Congress is investigating Smith now, Law.com reports.
