Over the past two decades, the Colombian superstar has become one of football’s most recognizable musical icons, with her performances closely tied to some of the tournament’s most memorable moments.
Her FIFA journey began in 2006, when she performed “Hips Don’t Lie (Bamboo Remix)” at the FIFA World Cup closing ceremony in Germany. Four years later, she delivered the unforgettable “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” at the 2010 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in South Africa. The song went on to become one of the most successful World Cup anthems of all time and remains synonymous with the tournament.
Shakira returned in 2014 for the FIFA World Cup closing ceremony in Brazil, performing “La La La (Brazil 2014),” another football anthem that became a fan favorite throughout the tournament.
Now, in 2026, Shakira has added another chapter to her FIFA legacy by headlining the tournament’s first-ever official halftime show, where she performed the new World Cup anthem “Dai Dai” alongside Burna Boy. The performance also featured Uganda’s Ghetto Kids, fulfilling a promise Shakira had made after the young dancers went viral with their choreography to the song.
With four World Cup appearances spanning 20 years, Shakira remains one of the few artists whose music has become inseparable from football’s biggest tournament, continuing to unite fans through unforgettable performances on the world’s grandest sporting stage.
