Google releases a security patch to fix vulnerabilities in the Chrome browser.

With an envious market share of close to 70 per cent, Google Chrome is the most popular browser on all platforms worldwide.

Given the fact that Chrome is used by several millions of people, it gets unwanted attention from cyber criminals. With specially crafted websites with malware, they can hoodwink naive users into installing apps on their systems and steal their personal and financial details.

Though device users are advised not to venture too deep into the darknet or avoid shady websites, it is also the responsibility of the platform owners such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft to regularly screen their apps to check for security loopholes. But, due to an oversight by an engineer, bugs or vulnerabilities go undetected.

In the latest instance, Google has detected several security issues in its Chrome browser. Thanks to timely discovery, it has released a security patch to its app.

If the security loopholes are left unpatched, computer owners are at risk of getting hacked. They are advised to update their Chrome apps to the latest versions– 50.0.7871.124/.125 for Windows and Mac and 150.0.7871.124 for Linux.

Access to bug details and links has been restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix. This way, Google avoids releasing security issues to criminals, who might target people who are late to update their Chrome app.

Here’s how to update to the latest version of Chrome on your computer:

Just go to the Chrome menu (three dots), select ‘Help’, then ‘About Google Chrome’, and Chrome will automatically check for updates and install them.
