Harry Potter actor Michael Byrne has passed away at the age of 82, according to a report by The Guardian on Tuesday. Byrne is known for his roles in notable films such as “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”. The news outlet reported that the actor died on June 20, but the cause of his death was not disclosed.

Born in London in 1943, Byrne had a long and prolific acting career spanning nearly 60 years. He began his career on stage in 1963, joining Laurence Olivier’s inaugural National Theatre Company at the Old Vic in London. Byrne appeared in numerous stage productions, including “Death and the Maiden” at the Royal Court, “The Double Dealer”, and “Much Ado About Nothing” at the National Theatre, as well as “The Cherry Orchard”, “The Seagull”, and “Romeo and Juliet”.

Later in his career, Byrne took on roles in “Mary Stuart” at the Duke of York’s Theatre and “Uncle Vanya” at the Theatre Royal in Bath. In 1989, he played the role of Nazi Colonel Ernst Vogel in the third “Indiana Jones” film, starring alongside Harrison Ford. Byrne also played the role of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” in 2010.
