Week 3 of the Hollywoodbets Super League saw TS Galaxy Queens begin their campaign in style, securing a 2-0 victory over First Touch FC Ladies at the Old Peter Mokoba Stadium in Polokwane in Limpopo, on Saturday, 15 March 2025.

A brace from Samkelisiwe Selena ensured that Sizwe Sibiya’s side left Limpopo with maximum points.

This win will be a massive confidence boost for The Rockets, especially following their squad reinforcements ahead of the season. Earlier in the week, club Chairlady Dudu Sukazi announced the acquisition of several high-profile players, including Banyana Banyana captain Refiloe Jane, along with Leandra Smeda, Babalwa Mngxunya, Gontse Homba, Nelly Gamede, Sinazo Zinto, Lethabo Ledwaba, and Tshwarelo Betty Mallela.

This wealth of experience bodes well for a team eager to make its mark once again in the country’s top-flight women’s league. Jane, who has played at the highest level in Europe for clubs like AC Milan, will be an invaluable asset, not just for the younger players but also for seasoned professionals such as goalkeeper Dineo Magagula and defender Yomelela Jacobs, both of whom have represented Banyana Banyana.

On the other hand, Dikgoshikgadi Tsa Limpopo will need to regroup and reassess ahead of their next fixture.

Copper Belts FC Dominate Durban Ladies

In another encounter, Copper Belts FC cruised past Durban Ladies FC with a commanding 3-0 victory, also at the Old Peter Mokoba Stadium. Captain Fiona Namanyana led from the front, opening the scoring in the 39th minute.

The second half saw two more unanswered goals, with Nomphelo Yakuphi doubling the lead in the 60th minute before Thembi Munyuku sealed the win in the 76th. This emphatic victory places Copper Belts at the top of the league standings.

    Financial Constraints Disrupt Fixtures

Despite the on-field action, some clubs have been unable to honour their fixtures due to financial constraints stemming from delays in “ongoing negotiations and approval processes between SAFA and Hollywood Sportsbook Holdings (Hollywoodbets),” according to a statement released by SAFA on March 13, 2025.

SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao acknowledged Hollywoodbets’ support and emphasised the importance of finding an internal solution to prevent further disruptions.

“We expressed our gratitude for Hollywoodbets’ support and also highlighted the need for an internal solution to avoid jeopardising the league’s operations, which may also affect Banyana Banyana’s preparations for this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in July,” she said.

SAFA has assured clubs and stakeholders that updates on fixtures will be provided in the coming month as they work to complete the league on schedule while ensuring Banyana Banyana has adequate preparation time for WAFCON.
