Filmed from a nearby vehicle, the footage captures the raw volatility of one of Africa’s most territorial animals. The incident appears to have taken place along a riverbank within the park, where the hippo had been partially submerged before suddenly lunging forward with its jaws open.

It is a stark reminder of wild unpredictability in South Africa’s flagship reserve. Hippos are widely regarded as one of Africa’s most dangerous large mammals due to their territorial behaviour, particularly in and around water.
