The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Africa has appointed strategic communications consultant Njideka Agbo as Director of the West Africa Interest Group, giving her responsibility for strengthening engagement among communications professionals across the region.

The appointment is part of the association’s newly constituted regional executive board, which is tasked with supporting the growth of the communications profession across Africa through collaboration, professional development and knowledge sharing.

In her new role, Agbo will work to increase participation among communications professionals in West Africa, expand learning opportunities, strengthen professional networks and improve the region’s connection with IABC’s global community. She will also work with the regional leadership team to create platforms that encourage the exchange of ideas and support the continued development of strategic communications across the sub-region.

The new executive board is led by Chair Christine Breet and Vice Chair Nkem Emezie-Ejinima, and includes communications professionals responsible for governance, finance, professional development, awards and regional engagement.

Speaking on her appointment, Agbo highlighted the growing importance of communications in helping organisations build trust and respond to change.

“The organisations that create lasting value are not distinguished by strategy alone. They are distinguished by the confidence they inspire among employees, customers, investors and the communities they serve.

Communication plays a critical role in building and sustaining that confidence because trust has become one of the most valuable assets any organisation can earn. As business environments become more complex, leaders increasingly depend on strategic communications to navigate change, strengthen stakeholder relationships and reinforce institutional credibility.

I look forward to working with communications professionals across West Africa to strengthen our professional community, encourage greater collaboration and position strategic communications as an indispensable leadership function that contributes meaningfully to organisational success.”

Agbo is the Founder and Principal Consultant of GLANN Media Consult, where she advises organisations on executive positioning, reputation management, corporate communications and thought leadership. Before establishing the firm, she served as Editor of Guardian Life, leading editorial coverage on business, leadership, innovation and culture.

She holds a Master’s degree in Communication from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and has completed executive education in Public Narrative: Leadership, Storytelling and Action at Harvard Kennedy School. Her work has also focused on mentorship and supporting the development of communications professionals.

Founded in 1970, the International Association of Business Communicators is a global professional association that supports practitioners working in corporate communications, public relations, public affairs, employee communication, marketing communications and executive advisory.

Through certification, research, professional development and knowledge sharing, IABC aims to strengthen professional standards and ethical practice while helping communications professionals respond to changing business and organisational needs. Agbo’s appointment is expected to support those efforts by increasing collaboration and expanding opportunities for communications professionals across West Africa.
