Former Public Enterprises Minister Dr Malusi Gigaba has not been arrested, despite earlier reports suggesting he had handed himself over to authorities in connection with the Transnet corruption investigation.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) confirmed on Thursday that Gigaba visited their offices in Lynnwood, Pretoria East, but that no formal charges have been laid.

IDAC Confirms: Malusi Gigaba Not Arrested
In a brief statement, IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame said:
“Mr Malusi Gigaba has not been placed under arrest. He is engaging IDAC and there will be no court appearance today. IDAC will not be commenting any further on the matter.”
Gigaba’s visit marks a significant new development in the NPA’s broader investigation into state capture-linked corruption at Transnet, one of several state-owned entities targeted during the Zuma-era corruption clean-up.

Transnet Corruption Probe Deepens
The ongoing Transnet investigation centres on irregular contracts and payments worth billions of rand, including the R54 billion locomotive deal awarded during Gigaba’s tenure as Minister of Public Enterprises between 2010 and 2014.
Several former Transnet executives — including Brian Molefe and Anoj Singh — have already appeared in court on fraud and corruption charges.
Gigaba has consistently denied any wrongdoing, describing the allegations as politically motivated and insisting he never benefited from the Gupta family’s business dealings.
