We were invited to this year’s Capitec Franschhoek Cap Classique & Champagne Festival. Here’s what we got up to and what you need to know for next year.

The festival could not have happened at a better time of year. The sun was out, everyone was dressed to the nines, and the incredible staff worked tirelessly to deliver an unforgettable experience.

Beneath the iconic Huguenot Monument on 29 and 30 November, South Africa’s top Cap Classique producers joined a selection of French Champagnes to create a weekend filled with gourmet tasting, sparkling wines, and festive cheer.

Tickets ranged from R400 to R450 depending on the day you chose, and each ticket included a keepsake champagne flute and ten tasting tokens. This allowed attendees to explore and savour their favourite MCCs and Champagnes at their own pace.

    The VIP experience

The VIP experience offered an extra layer of luxury without taking away from the magic of the general festival. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a shuttle that took us directly to the venue. After collecting our wristbands, we were ushered to the exclusive Capitec Lounge.

The lounge featured two windows shaped like the Capitec logo where ringing the bell meant champagne was served instantly.

A bar offered signature cocktails, while a charcuterie table, an oyster station with salmon roses, and a sorbet stall provided a feast for every taste.

Attentive staff circulated with small bowls of food and later desserts, ensuring every guest felt cared for. Their warmth, humour, and dedication made the VIP experience truly memorable.

It is important to note that the VIP experience was an addition to the festival, not a replacement. The general festival experience remained just as magical, with live music, MCC and Champagne tastings and stylish lounges available for all attendees. The VIP perks simply enhanced a weekend that was already unforgettable.

    The look

This year’s dress theme, “Champagne White with a Pop of Blue and a Note of Pinot Noir Red,” brought a sophisticated and playful palette to the festival. Guests embraced the theme, pairing elegant whites with vibrant hints of blue and red, creating a striking visual harmony across the lawns. The carefully curated décor, pastel lounges, and chic sunshades complemented the theme perfectly, making the festival as photogenic as it was indulgent and providing endless opportunities for lifestyle coverage and social media moments.

The Capitec Cap Classique & Champagne Festival is a full sensory celebration. The festival showcased carefully chosen MCCs and French Champagnes, paired gourmet food, and created a stylish ambiance to delight the senses. Whether you know your Brut from your Rosé or simply enjoy a weekend of bubbles and good vibes, the festival brought together flavour, fun, and unforgettable moments.

Plan for next year: Make the most of your Franschhoek weekend

If you are already planning to attend in 2026, thoughtful preparation will help you enjoy the festival and Franschhoek to the fullest.

    Where to Stay

    • Boutique Hotels and Guesthouses: Le Quartier Français or La Residence offer luxury stays within walking distance of restaurants and wine estates.
    • Charming B&Bs: Maison Chablis or Franschhoek Country House provide cosy comfort with local character.
    • Self-Catering and Airbnb Options: Ideal for those seeking flexibility and private dining. Early booking is essential as festival weekends fill quickly.

    Where to eat

    • Fine Dining: The Tasting Room or La Petite Colombe provide memorable high-end meals.
    • Casual and Café Culture: Franschhoek Bakery or Le Bon Vivant are perfect for breakfast or light lunches.
    • Wine Estate Restaurants: Estates like Haute Cabrière or Babylonstoren combine wine tasting with leisurely meals.

    Staying comfortable in the heat

    • Bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses AND dress in breathable materials regardless of the theme.
    • Wear comfortable shoes suitable for grassy lawns.
    • Stay hydrated by carrying water, even though stations are available on site.
    • Consider a light shawl or cover-up for early evenings when temperatures drop slightly.

    Festival tips and safety

    • Arrive early to avoid queues at popular MCC stands.
    • Use your tasting tokens to explore a variety of Cap Classiques and Champagnes at a relaxed pace.
    • Take breaks in shaded lounges and enjoy photo opportunities, as Franschhoek’s scenery provides a perfect backdrop.
    • Plan carefully if you intend to drink. For anyone driving, consider staying overnight in Franschhoek so you can walk to and from the event safely. Alternatively, ensure you are fully sober and safe before driving. Safety should always be a priority while enjoying the festival.

The Capitec Cap Classique & Champagne Festival is a sensory weekend of flavour, style, and celebration. From exquisite MCCs and Champagnes to gourmet pairings, chic ambiance, and thoughtful touches for all guests, it is easy to see why this festival is a highlight on South Africa’s social calendar.

With careful planning, smart accommodations, delicious dining, and sun-smart preparation, you can make the most of both the festival and Franschhoek itself. Start planning for 2026, and every sip, smile, and sunset will be worth the anticipation.
