The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has officially closed its investigation into KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, clearing him of any misconduct.

The probe, which sparked a media frenzy and intense political speculation, was withdrawn this week after IPID found no evidence to support the allegations lodged against the senior police official.

Though the nature of the allegations was never fully disclosed, insiders suggest the complaint was rooted in internal factional battles aimed at discrediting Mkhwanazi’s leadership—a man both feared and respected in South African law enforcement.

“Snake Tricks Have Fallen Flat” — Supporters Celebrate

Mkhwanazi’s supporters, long vocal about what they claimed was a political smear campaign, have hailed the IPID’s decision as a complete vindication.

“All these snake tricks have fallen flat,” said a source close to the commissioner. “He remains focused and committed to serving the people of KwaZulu-Natal without fear or favour.”

Social media erupted in support under the trending hashtag #GoodWorkNdonga, a nod to Mkhwanazi’s clan name, with users praising his tough stance on crime and demanding that he stay the course in tackling corruption, gangsterism, and violent crime in the province.

IPID Confirms Closure, While Mkhwanazi Stays Silent but Steady

While the Commissioner has not issued an official statement, the message from his camp is clear: he’s not going anywhere.

“The investigation has been closed as there was insufficient evidence to proceed,” confirmed IPID spokesperson Robbie Raburabu, who declined to provide further details due to confidentiality rules.

Within SAPS ranks, insiders say Mkhwanazi is “more determined than ever” to continue his work. The focus now shifts back to his crime-fighting initiatives—ranging from taking on drug syndicates to rooting out police corruption across the province.

With the probe behind him, Mkhwanazi’s name is once again synonymous with grit, integrity, and uncompromising leadership.
