An Indiana judge who was shot while at home with his wife this past weekend is speaking out about maintaining his faith in the judicial system and the need for peaceful conflict resolution.

Tippecanoe County Superior Court Judge Steven P. Meyer was shot in the arm Sunday afternoon inside his Lafayette, Indiana, home. In a statement issued Wednesday, he thanked his medical team, colleagues and law enforcement. His wife, Kimberly Meyer, suffered injuries to her hip, the Indiana Lawyer reports.

“I want the community to know that I have strong faith in our judicial system,” Meyer said. “This horrific violence will not shake my belief in the importance of peacefully resolving disputes.”

The judge remains in a hospital in Indianapolis; his wife was released Sunday. No arrests have been made.
