South Africa were represented by a trio of young, upcoming riders at the Tour du Rwanda which concluded with a cancelled he seventh and final stage due to bad weather with just over 13km left to race. Mud on the course initially caused a re-route of the stage, before it was eventually cancelled due to strong winds and thunderstorms.

Twenty-year-old Kieran Gordge emerged as the top-placed South African finisher on the overall general classification, slotting in at 22nd. He was 12min 30sec behind Tour winner Fabien Doubey, the French rider in the colours of Totalenergies.

Another 20-year-old, Ryno Schutte, was eight minutes behind Gordge in 32rd position and Daniyal Matthews (26) placed 59th.

Schutte finished fourth on the final points classification list, with Matthews fifth, while Gordge placed ninth on the youth classification table, highlighting the depth in emerging cycling talent in the sport.
