FOR weeks, Mzansi has been guessing who was hiding behind the fluffy pink Lady Monster costume on The Masked Singer <a href="https://absafricatv.com/south-africa-hundreds-of-people-still-stranded-outside-malawian-consulate/" title="South Africa: Hundreds of People Still Stranded Outside Malawian Consulate”>South Africa.
Now, Linda Mtoba has finally been unmasked, and she’s revealed that being hidden behind the costume gave her confidence to chase a new dream.
The journey began when the former Isibaya actress said she agreed to join the show, thanks to her daughter, Beanie.
“It’s a programme we love watching at home, so I thought what better way than to be part of the show and surprise the kids at home. They absolutely loved it, so I really did it for the kids,” she said.
Stepping onto the stage, Linda performedGolden by Jill Scott, a song she said has a special place in her heart.
“That’s my daughter’s favourite song and we really like the song together. So, that’s why I chose it,” said Linda.
Speaking to Daily Sun, the 34-year-old former IsibayaandThe Riveractress said the performance experience was both challenging and liberating.
Linda admitted performing inside the costume wasn’t easy.
“It was really hot. But it was so much fun. It was just so freeing to be myself and not be myself at the same time. It was hot in there, but it was also so freeing to actually be myself under that costume,” she said.
Off stage, while she enjoyed the process, keeping her identity a secret proved to be one of the hardest parts.

“It was eating at me. I’m a chatty person, so driving all the way there in complete silence was difficult.
“Then, I had to come home and remove all the pink fluff from my clothes because everyone kept asking where it was coming from. Everyone at home became detectives,” she said.
Her secrecy worked perfectly.
Linda completely fooled the show’s detectives, Somizi Mhlongo, J’Something, Sithelo Shozi, and Skhumba Hlophe, who failed to guess she was behind the fluffy pink costume.
Although viewers know her as an actress, Linda’s performance impressed many, with some even believing she was a professional singer.
J’Something thought she was Lady Zamar.The actress, who was recently unmasked as Lady Monster on the hit show, said she might just pursue a career in music.
The show airs on SABC3 every Saturday at 6.30pm.She admitted the experience has now inspired her to explore music.
“I’m happy because I think it gave me courage and motivation to want to step into the world of singing more,” she said.
Following her unmasking, Linda said she has loved seeing how shocked fans were after her reveal.
“People were so shocked and they really enjoyed the show,” she said.
Although she was eliminated earlier than she had hoped, Linda said she walked away with unforgettable memories.
“It felt so sad. I’m not going to lie. I thought I was going to make it right to the very end. That’s what I was prepared for. So it was really sad to go, but it was a very fun experience.”
