A 69-year-old Colorado attorney was hospitalized with serious injuries after a man attacked him earlier this week using an “MMA style takedown” before a court hearing.
CBS Colorado reports that Daniel Alexander Ashby, 36, has been jailed for investigation of felony assault after he allegedly attacked 69-year-old attorney H. Michael Steinberg.
Ashby had come to attend a hearing at the Arapahoe County Courthouse on Monday related to his 12-year-old nephew, who was struck and killed by a car while riding a scooter in July, CBS Colorado reports.
Steinberg was representing the driver who hit the boy. Before the hearing, an Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputy wrote that Ashby “aggressively approached Steinberg trying to see the defendant Steinberg was representing.”
According to CBS Colorado, the arrest report said Steinberg “told Ashby to go into the courthouse and pushed him back to create space as Ashby was in his face. Ashby then performed a ‘MMA style takedown’ on Steinberg causing him to become unconscious.”
