A jury on Wednesday found a man guilty of murdering a Cook County, Illinois, judge in April 2017.

Earl Wilson, who was accused of watching Cook County Judge Raymond Myles and his girlfriend Venita Parrish for several days before shooting the judge outside his home in Chicago, was convicted of murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery and armed robbery, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Prosecutors said Wilson and his co-defendant Joshua Smith confronted Myles and Parrish as they left for the gym before work, the Chicago Tribune reports. They took Parrish’s gym bag, and after exchanging words with Myles, they shot and killed him.

Smith pleaded guilty to armed robbery in 2024 and received a 35-year prison sentence. The Chicago Tribune reports that his father and Parrish were previously married.

Myles worked as a prosecutor and in private practice before joining the bench in 1999. According to the Chicago Tribune, he presided over what was known as “bond court” for many years. In one high-profile case, he ordered William Balfour to be held without bail in the killings of actress-singer Jennifer Hudson’s three relatives in 2008.
