The Umkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) has confirmed that it has set up a legal team to conduct a formal inquiry into its suspended Parliamentary leader, Dr John Hlophe.
The decision follows a meeting between party leader Jacob Zuma, MKP national officials and the party’s Parliamentary caucus.

Des van Rooyen has been appointed acting Parliamentary leader, while Colleen Makhubele will continue serving as Chief Whip.
MKP Confirms Legal Probe Into Hlophe’s Suspension
MKP spokesperson Sipho Tyira said the party will not accept any unilateral changes within the caucus that could threaten organisational unity.

“The President reiterates the precautionary suspension of Dr John Hlophe as Deputy President of the party leader pending the outcome of a formal inquiry.
“A legal team has been appointed to preside over this process and upon conclusion that legal team will then present a detailed report to his excellency the President and the national officials,” Tyira stated.

Tyira emphasised that despite the suspension, Hlophe remains part of the MKP’s Parliamentary mandate.
“It’s important to state Dr Hlophe remains a MP and a committed member of the MK Party. And as a result of these deliberations held by the national officials the President has approved the appointment of comrade Des Van Rooyen as acting party leader effective immediately in Parliament to continuity and effective leadership.

“Comrade Colleen Makhubele continues in her duty and her role as the Chief Whip of caucus,” he added.
