    Do you love journeying through time? Are you excited by the idea of exploring the world with the aim of unearthing the past’s hidden treasures?

    Undoubtedly, there’s a magic attached to tracing the footsteps of those who came before us. Diving into the deep exploration of historic monuments, sacred ruins and past ways of life can be fascinating and empowering.

    There are plenty of historic destinations which have rich and interesting stories to tell. If you are a history buff, here are some historical havens around the world which are worth visiting:

    Athens, Greece

    With a history that spans over 5 000 years, Athens is the ideal place to unpack the past events of Ancient Greece. The city is home to several historic landmarks which grant insight into Greek mythology. These include the Acropolis, an intriguing citadel which overlooks the city from a hilltop. When in Athens, grab the opportunity to trace the history of Western civilization and philosophy, while also exploring great historic minds such as Plato, Aristotle and Socrates.

    Beijing, China

    China’s capital city has a history which stretches back over 3 000 years. This rich history is preserved in several museums and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. When in Beijing, be sure to visit the popular Forbidden City – an imperial palace complex which was constructed in the 1400’s. The Great Wall of China is also worth seeing as it has significant stories to tell of past centuries.

    Cairo, Egypt

    Cairo named number one travel destination in Africa

    The beautiful and intriguing city of Cairo is steeped in the remains of Ancient Egypt. With a rich heritage that stretches over thousands of years, it is a destination that beckons those with a passion for the past.

    Cairo’s legacy is deeply intertwined with various modern-day marvels such as the Giza Pyramids which defy time and logic, as well as the Great Sphinx which is an Egyptian mythological creature and one of the world’s most recognizable statues.

    Rome, Italy

    Rome carries a history that is nothing short of rich and interesting. The destination is home to several popular structures which any history buff would be delighted to witness firsthand. These include the Colosseum which played an active part in ancient Roman life, as well as the Roman Forum which served as a marketplace in the past.

    A visit to Rome will help you delve deeper into different historical events and time frames, including the rule of Julius Caesar, as well as the rise and fall of the Roman Empire.
