Njabulo Blom‘s return to Kaizer Chiefs this season has not gone according to plan.
The 25-year-old midfielder is on a season-long loan from Major League Soccer (MLS) side St Louis City. He rejoined Amakhosi before the start of the season, having made a big move to the MLS in 2023. He had a good start to his career in the States, but a change of coaching meant the Bafana Bafana star fell down the pecking order.
Speaking after winning 1-0 against Magesi, Nabi admitted that the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder had not been performing well as expected.
“I don’t want to judge the performances of one of my players, here we will look at different data and videos about his performance to try and find out why… [he’s not playing as expected],” he said as per iDiski Times.
“We as well believe he was not in his best condition today and was not his best performance today, we agree with that but we will take a look at it, using every tools that we have.”
Kaizer Chiefs had high hopes for Blom
Since rejoining Amakhosi this season, Blom has played 17 matches this season, and has been subbed off at half-time three times. When Chiefs had crises at right-back, the 25-year-old slotted in and did a good job for a few games. With Dillan Solomons and Reeve Frosler back to full fitness, Blom has been reverted back to midfield.
New signing Thabo Celel has excelled in Blom’s position since joining Kaizer Chiefs in January. It seems likely that the Amakhosi youth product might return to MLS next season having failed to impress Nabi.
Should Chiefs sign Blom?
