National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO on Monday discussed expanding cooperation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) following the country’s official acquisition of observer status in the organization, during a regular meeting held at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

The meeting reviewed prospective areas of cooperation with ICESCO and mechanisms for further developing the partnership, while also assessing the commission’s activities during the first half of 2026, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry reported.

Participants highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation with UNESCO in the fields of education, science, culture, preservation of historical and cultural heritage and the promotion of Turkmenistan’s national values at the international level.

The meeting also considered ways to further improve the implementation of Turkmenistan’s initiatives and commitments within the framework of its cooperation with UNESCO.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants identified priority areas for further strengthening Turkmenistan’s cooperation with UNESCO, ICESCO and other leading international organizations, and outlined key areas of work for the coming period.
