This is an excerpt from The Buzzer, which is CBC Sports’ daily email newsletter. Stay up to speed on what’s happening in sports by subscribing here.

The Milan Cortina Winter Olympics have arrived.

Competition begins Wednesday with a handful of mixed doubles curling games, including Canada vs. Czechia. The Canadian women’s hockey team plays its first game on Thursday. Figure skaters hit the ice Friday before the Games officially begin with the opening ceremony later that night. Then it’s full steam ahead with the first medal events on Saturday.

Which is all to say, the Olympics come at you fast. And if you’re not a hardcore fan of all of these sports, the thought of figuring out who, what and when to watch might seem overwhelming.

That’s where the Buzzer can help. From now through the closing ceremony on Feb. 22, I’m going to keep you up to speed on everything a Canadian should know to enjoy these Games to the fullest.

The newsletter will arrive in your inbox every day (including weekends) after competition wraps up for the night over in Italy (they’re six hours ahead of Eastern Time). The release time will vary depending on what’s going on, but I think 7 p.m. ET might be a good ballpark estimate for most days. I’ll recap all the Canadian medals and other interesting news of the day and look ahead to the key events coming up the next day.

That daily viewing guide section of the newsletter is always very popular. It will let you know which Canadian athletes have a good shot at a medal in the upcoming day and exactly when they’re competing so you don’t miss a chance to watch them live. You’ll also learn a bit about their backstories so you can appreciate their performances on a deeper level.

If you’re already subscribed to the Buzzer, you’re all set. If you’re not, sign up for free here. All you have to do is type in your email address, then look for a confirmation email to get on the subscriber list right away.

    Now let the Games begin.
