N.C. — Since breaking ground in February, there has been continuous activity at St. Peter Catholic School as crews work to get the new preschool building ready for the academic year

St. Peter parishioners Laura and James Harris had five children go through the school from pre-K through 8th grade. Some of the Harris children attended in the modular unit that served as the former home to pre-K. This year their youngest, James, will be in the inaugural preschool class in the new building

They said they’re grateful for the new building and a new beginning, adding that they pray each day that the students may grow in faith

Due to the crews’ hard work and the lack of rain this summer, the completion date moved from mid-November to mid-September. This will make for extremely excited preschoolers who will be able to spend even more time in the new building following its completion

Principal Debbie Sommer, following one of her daily site walks to monitor progress, said, “We are very excited to move our preschoolers into their new building this fall and so thankful for the generosity of our community and their investment in the future of Catholic Education.”

St. Peter’s pre-K, or preschool, program started in 2006 and was housed in a modular unit. The program started with two PK4 classrooms; PK4 is made up of students who are in the year before kindergarten. In 2018 the school added a PK3 classroom, which had 3-year-olds. Today there are two PK4 classrooms and one PK3 classroom; the new building will offer a similar set up. St. Peter students in grades kindergarten – 8th attend class in an adjacent building
