Nigeria‘s Federal Government has reiterated its dedication to enhancing diplomatic and economic ties with the Republic of Serbia, as both nations aim to broaden collaboration in trade, investment, and infrastructure development.
This assurance was provided by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, during a courtesy visit in Abuja from Jugoslav Vukadinović, Serbia’s Ambassador to Nigeria.
Akume characterized the bond between Nigeria and Serbia as being built upon mutual respect, common interests, and many years of diplomatic collaboration. He also promised the government’s ongoing backing for more profound bilateral involvement.
The Serbian ambassador referred to the relationship as historic, highlighting that Serbia, as the successor state of the former Yugosla’s independence in 1960
He further recalled that the former Yugosla both countries shared strong links through the Non-Aligned Movement
Vukadinović stated that Serbia considers Nigeria its primary partner on the African continent. He also conveyed a willingness to assist Serbian companies in returning to Nigeria to explore fresh investment prospects.
The ambassador emphasized the significant contributions of Serbian businesses to key infrastructure developments in Nigeria. These projects encompass the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, the Kano State Ministerial Complex, as well as hospitals, electrification initiatives, irrigation networks, and dams.
Furthermore, the ambassador indicated Serbia’s readiness to act as a conduit for Nigerian enterprises looking to enter markets in Southeastern Europe. He voiced conviction that enhanced economic collaboration would yield advantages for both nations.
