The Patriotic Alliance and Cape Town residents are again calling for urgent intervention as gun violence continues to rock communities across the metro. Frustration is growing over the rising death toll, with many questioning how criminals manage to access a steady supply of ammunition.
During a community march near Zevenwacht Mall in Kuils River on Wednesday, Patriotic Alliance (PA) Public Relations Councillor Wendell Nimmerhout publicly challenged President Cyril Ramaphosa to step in.

The march, held under the theme “Coloured Lives Matter”, saw Nimmerhout voicing community anger over persistent shootings across areas such as Eerste River, Kuils River, Wesbank and the Cape Flats.
He said, “The reason why we are here today is to shout that ‘Coloured Lives Matter’, because of all the killings happening in our communities.

“It seems like the government isn’t interested in solving this issue and we want to call on President Cyril Ramaphosa to bring in the army and to stabilise the situation in our communities.”
Patriotic Alliance: Calls Intensify for Army Deployment to Gang-Hit Areas
Nimmerhout argued that bringing in the military was the only immediate way to restore order, saying: “That’s the only way, like in the old days, that we can bring about change in our communities.”
He acknowledged the work of some police officers but accused others of colluding with criminals: “We know the police – some of them are doing a good job – and then there are also some of them who are in cahoots with the criminals.”
The PA has been pushing the Coloured Lives Matter campaign for months. Its MP, Liam Jacobs, has also repeatedly urged government action, saying last month, “Coloured lives matter.

“When I say ‘Coloured lives matter’, it does not imply that only Coloured lives matter. We are saying that Coloured lives matter too. And it is these Coloured lives that are being lost on a daily basis… And the very system that is supposed to protect us, is failing.”
Community Demands Transparency on Gun and Ammo Origins
Beyond the call for military deployment, Nimmerhout insists that the country must confront a deeper issue: the origins of the weapons used in these shootings.
“The question is, where do they get these guns? They don’t have money, they don’t have the licences, so where do they get the guns?” he said.
Drawing on past incidents, he urged the President to act decisively: “We know what happened in the past and it is based on that that we are saying that we need to stand up and shout out to the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa to send us the army.”
