South African surfer Paul Sampson has secured the biggest win of his career, taking first place at the prestigious Africa Surf Tour event in Annise, Ivory Coast.
Sampson, widely regarded as one of South Africa’s leading transformation surfers, has been steadily making a name for himself on the Africa Surf Tour circuit. His latest triumph is a personal achievement and a testament to the growing strength of African surfing on the global stage.
The Africa Surf Tour, organised by the African Surfing Confederation (ASC), was created to give African surfers more opportunities to compete, earn prize money, and gain valuable heat experience.
While South African and Moroccan surfers have made it to the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour, no other African nations have yet been represented at the highest level of competition. With Africa’s vast coastline offering world-class waves, the ASC is determined to change that narrative.
The next major stop on the Africa Surf Tour is the African Surfing Championships, in Liberia from May 20-23. The event will unite the best surfers across the continent as they battle for the championship title.
