The Proteas’ journey has been defined by a magnificent turnaround. Their World Cup campaign began on a sombre note, succumbing to a heavy defeat against England.
However, the team immediately regrouped, responding with an impressive four-match winning streak against a challenging field that included New Zealand, tournament hosts India, Bangladesh, and most recently, Sri Lanka.
This run of four consecutive triumphs has propelled the side to second place on the standings, locking in the semi-final berth with two games to spare.
The core of this success lies in standout performances across the squad. Captain Laura Wolvaardt, in addition to her exemplary leadership, has been a pillar of consistency with the bat. All-rounder Nadine de Klerk has emerged as the team’s clutch match-winner, delivering crucial efforts in the tense run chases against both India and Bangladesh that cemented the team’s upward trajectory.
And opener Tazmin Brits, bouncing back from a shaky start, smashed a magnificent century against New Zealand, signalling her ready form with an impressive half-century against Sri Lanka on Friday.

The four consecutive wins, against New Zealand by six wickets, India by three wickets, Bangladesh by three wickets, and the recent 10-wicket thrashing of Sri Lanka, have demonstrated their proficiency in navigating tight situations and chasing competitive totals.
With two league matches still remaining, against Pakistan on Tuesday and a highly anticipated final group-stage clash with tournament favourites Australia on Saturday, the focus now shifts to maintaining momentum and refining tactics ahead of the crucial knockout fixtures.
The semi-final stage of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 is scheduled for Wednesday, 29 October and Thursday, 30 October, and the country now eagerly awaits to see if the team can continue their stunning form and secure a spot in the final on Sunday, 2 November.
