Public Protector Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka has confirmed that her office will investigate President Cyril Ramaphosa following allegations that he violated the Executive Code of Conduct.

The complaint was lodged by the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, which claims the President may have breached several clauses related to abuse of power, improper conduct, inconsistent executive action, and failing to act in the nation’s best interests.

The opposition party argues that these allegations raise serious concerns about ethical governance at the highest level and welcomed the move by the Chapter Nine institution.

In a statement, MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela said the decision to investigate represents “a significant step towards securing accountability” for what the party describes as ongoing ethical shortcomings under Ramaphosa’s leadership.

Ndhlela referenced controversies that have emerged during the President’s tenure, including the Phala Phala matter and what the party views as weakened oversight institutions.

Investigation Seen as Key to Restoring Institutional Credibility

The MK Party insists the inquiry is necessary to reinforce public trust in the country’s leadership.

Ndhlela added, “This development marks a significant step towards securing accountability for the persistent ethical failures that have characterised Cyril Ramaphosa’s tenure, from the Phala Phala scandal to the steady erosion of the oversight institutions and the alleged misuse of state apparatus to protect himself and his close associates.
