Qantas is set to enhance connectivity between South Africa and Australia with the introduction of a new direct flight route between Johannesburg and Perth, commencing on 7 December 2025.

This service will operate three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays—with a flight duration of approximately 9 hours and 55 minutes.

The route will be serviced by a Qantas Airbus A330, featuring 27 business class suites in a 1-2-1 layout, each equipped with lie-flat beds and direct aisle access, along with 224 economy seats designed for comfort on longer journeys.

This new link is anticipated to be a welcome addition for travellers, offering quicker access not only to Western Australia but also to cities across the country and to New Zealand, with just one stop. The Perth service will connect seamlessly to Qantas’ domestic network, facilitating onward flights to major Australian cities including Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide.

In addition to the Johannesburg–Perth route, Qantas has announced a new international route between Perth and Auckland, launching at the same time. This development means travellers flying from Johannesburg can now reach New Zealand with just one stop in Perth.

Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace expressed enthusiasm about the new route, stating, “We’re excited to be launching this new route, which offers more options for South Africans wanting to visit Australia or reconnect with friends and family. It also creates an easier pathway to New Zealand via Perth”, as reported by News.com.au.

The introduction of this direct route signifies Qantas’ commitment to expanding its international network and providing greater flexibility and choice for travellers on both sides. With this addition, Qantas will now operate daily flights between Australia and South Africa, further strengthening the ties between the two nations.
