    Riveiro speaks out on absence

Orlando Pirates’ Monnapule Saleng dilemma continues, as Jose Riveiro speaks out on absence.

Pirates head coach Riveiro has opened up about the ongoing Saleng situation, acknowledging the challenges his absence has created for the team. The Buccaneers’ hopes of closing the gap on Betway Premiership leaders took another hit after a frustrating goalless draw against 10-man Stellenbosch on Tuesday.

Whenever Pirates drop points, questions arise about their lack of cutting edge in the final third. The absence of Saleng, one of their most influential attackers, has only amplified these concerns. The 26-year-old has been unavailable since early December due to a legal matter cited by his representatives, leaving Pirates without one of their key offensive weapons.

Riveiro admits reality of Saleng’s absence

After the stalemate at Athlone Stadium, Riveiro acknowledged the difficulty of the situation but emphasized the need to accept reality.

“No one would like to be in this situation we’re in when we started the season, but it is what it is,” the Spaniard told reporters in his post-match interview.

While avoiding details, he made it clear that his focus remains on the players available.

“It is something, as you know, (that) is not my role to speak so much about that issue. I just wish the best for both sides in this case.

“We don’t… Whatever I say it’s gonna be a big headline, right? But we’re focused on the players that we have, that’s it.”

Pirates must move forward with or without Saleng

Despite Saleng’s absence, Riveiro expressed confidence in his squad’s depth and hunger for success.

“I think luckily we have a lot of talent in the team, we have players who are hungry, wanting to use the opportunities. The opportunities are presented to them, players in every position capable of doing the job.”

With a crucial match against Mamelodi Sundowns approaching, the coach urged his team to stay focused.

“We have to live for the moment. The future for us is to get ready tomorrow for a big match over the weekend. There’s no time to think so much about who is there, who is not,” Riveiro concluded.

    What’s next for Pirates?

With their attacking struggles continuing and Saleng’s return uncertain, Pirates must find a way to rediscover their cutting edge before facing league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Will Riveiro’s squad step up, or will their scoring woes persist?

Stay tuned with The South African as Orlando Pirates’ Saleng dilemma continues, as Riveiro speaks out on his absence.
