Team SA Paralympian Christian Sadie blazed his way to the silver medal in the men’s S13 200m Individual Medley on the opening day of the World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore, where South Africa had three para-swimmers in the pool.
Sadie has twice represented his country at the Paralympics and and his competing in his third World Para Championships, having made his debut at Mexico City in 2017.
Fifth in the SM7 200m IM at the Paris Paralympics, Sadie improved on that performance to finish second behind Inaki Basiloff of Argentina, while Aleksei Ganiuk, a Neutral Paralympic Athlete, took bronze.
The 27-year-old Sadie lowered the African record to 2:04.03 in the final, which was the second African record of the opening day. Nathan Hendricks also improved the continental mark with a time of 58.46 in the heats of the men’s S13 100m butterfly.

SILVER! Men’s SM7 200m Ind Medley, FINAL: Christian Sadie followed up his morning swim by going even faster in the final, setting a new African record in the process. Sadie touched the way in 2:34.03, which earned him the silver medal behind Argentina’s Inaki Basiloff (2:30.65)
Women’s S13 100m butterfly, heats: Another Team SA Paralympian, Alani Ferreira, finished 5th in her heat in 1:21.20, which placed her 10th on the overall list of qualifiers and missing out on a place in the final
