SK Telecom announced on the 16th that it has established ‘special communication measures for the summer vacation season’ utilizing AI-based network operation and control technology, and will set up a special communication situation room from July 20 to August 31 to intensively manage communication quality.

SKT is conducting pre-inspections and real-time monitoring focusing on areas and multi-use facilities where a surge in traffic is expected due to increased mobility during the vacation season. Through this, the company plans to strengthen its response system to ensure that customers can use communication services smoothly while on the move or at their vacation destinations.

SKT predicts traffic and detects anomalies early by utilizing its in-house developed and commercialized A-One and Spider. A-One supports coverage analysis, traffic prediction based on historical event data, and quality monitoring linked with AI agents. Spider detects anomalies and suggests rapid corrective measures by integrating and analyzing alarms and statistical data from all core network equipment.

SKT plans to conduct proactive inspections and real-time monitoring across all areas, including core, transmission, wireless, roaming, and disaster response, by organically collaborating with specialized personnel from its subsidiaries and partners, such as SK Broadband and SK O&S.

SKT has selected approximately 1,100 locations nationwide as “major theme areas” where a surge in traffic is expected during the vacation season. These areas include:

  • Transportation hubs such as expressways, national roads, airports, KTX stations, and terminals.
  • Beaches, recreational forests, campsites, and camping grounds.
  • Tourist attractions, resorts, and hotels.
  • Shopping malls, supermarkets, and bustling commercial districts.

The company is optimizing capacity and strengthening on-site inspections. In particular, anticipating a concentration of vacation demand from August 1st to 15th, SKT plans to further enhance monitoring and on-site response.

Communication quality at major festival sites nationwide, including water festivals and local events, will also be intensively managed. Mobile base stations and temporary communication facilities will be deployed at venues expected to attract large crowds, and plans are in place to conduct pre-event network checks tailored to the characteristics of the event alongside real-time monitoring on the day of the event.

We also proactively assessed international roaming demand in anticipation of an increase in overseas travel during the summer vacation period. As the number of overseas roaming users is expected to increase by up to 20% compared to the normal month of June, we expanded the capacity of international roaming signal processing systems and major relay sections in advance.

SKT has also completed preliminary inspections of approximately 4,900 telecommunications facilities nationwide in preparation for disasters and heatwaves. The company checked the safety status of facilities and the possibility of flooding in low-lying areas, and conducted special inspections of emergency generators and related facilities in island regions, which are particularly vulnerable to disasters.

We plan to maintain a control and field response system to enable the immediate deployment of emergency recovery personnel and equipment in the event of damage caused by abnormal weather conditions such as typhoons and torrential rains, and to also provide on-site support to disaster areas.
