Spain will face Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday, July 19.

The matchup pits two traditional powers, who will meet at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Spain will be seeking its second World Cup title, having won its only championship in 2010.

Argentina is looking for its fourth World Cup and second in a row after winning in 2022. Should it win on Sunday, Argentina would become the first team to repeat as men’s World Cup champions since Brazil in 1958 and 1962.

La Albiceleste stunned England late in the semifinal for a 2-1 victory.

Lionel Messi has led the way for Argentina once again at this World Cup, scoring eight goals in seven games so far.

Spain took care of France 2-0 in its last-four match, surprisingly controlling a game against a side that had been dominant in the tournament previously.

La Roja have had a number of stars at the competition. Lamine Yamal has scored just once, but Mikel Ozarzabal has five goals to lead the attack.

Meanwhile, Spain’s defense has been its biggest weapon at the World Cup, conceding just one goal through seven matches.

The 2026 World Cup is the largest ever, and USA TODAY is going all in with reporters on the ground in all 16 host cities across three countries to cover 48 teams vying for the trophy. Spain vs Argentina predictions

Seth Vertelney: Spain 2-1 Argentina

Spain’s ability to possess the ball is a bad match for a tired Argentina side, which will have to be chasing far more than it would like. La Roja are full of confidence and looked poised to capture a second World Cup.

Jon Arnold: Spain 1-2 Argentina

In a matchup of two teams that have many of the same ideas – ideas that other teams in the tournament didn’t replicate and weren’t able to get to this point – it’s Lionel Messi going out on top with few more moments of magic.

Jesse Yomtov: Spain 2 – 1 Argentina

Spain ends Messi’s World Cup career with a defeat in the final, La Roja’s second world championship.

Nancy Armour: Spain 2-0 Argentina

It doesn’t matter who Spain plays.
